💡 About Me

Hello! I'm Benjamin Clark, a mathematician and software engineer with a deep passion for solving complex problems at the intersection of theory and application.

I hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Washington State University (WSU), where my research focused on nonnegative matrix theory, polynomials of matrices, and semi-algebraic conditions for matrix spectra. Before graduate school, I earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Washington Bothell.

My professional experience spans both industry and academia. I am currently back at Google working in the labs department on the Beam team. During my time in graduate school, I served as a course instructor and teaching assistant at WSU teaching undergraduate mathematics, and worked as an AI Data Analyst evaluating graduate-level mathematics reasoning and complex problem formulations.

I truly enjoy leveraging modern software development to explore, visualize, and conquer mathematical questions. My research often involves building custom computational tools—such as using Python, differential evolution, and GPU acceleration to numerically map matrices on the boundary of the nonnegative inverse eigenvalue problem (NIEP).

Whether I'm engineering distributed infrastructure, optimizing numerical kernels, presenting research at national conferences, or guiding students through mathematics, I am driven by a passion to understand, model, and build intricate systems.
